After School Partnerships
On-Site After-School Program (Run by Jackson Mann Community Center)The Jackson Mann Community Center runs an before- and after-school program on-site at the Edison K8 School for students in K2 kindergarten through grade six.
There are options to continue with the JMCC program at the Jackson-Mann Community Center on school vacation weeks, holidays, snow days, and in the summer.
There are five different options:
Financial assistance is available through the Department of Early Education Care on a limited basis for those who qualify. Sibling discounts are given.
Programming includes:
The morning program begins at 7:00 am; students proceed to the cafeteria to get a school breakfast at 8:15 am. The after-school program immediately follows school dismissal and continues to 6 pm. The children have various activities, as well as homework time. When local colleges are in session, there is a program where BC and/or BU undergraduates tutor the students on-site. No bus transportation is available at the end of the after-school program.

- Blended before and after school program, full year program (school weeks, holidays, snow days, vacations, and summer weeks), $115/week
- After school program only, school weeks only, $90/week
- Vacation weeks and summer weeks only, 8 am - 6 pm, run at the JMCC, $164/week

- Boston College tutors;
- Literacy activities;
- Shining Lights Academy (option for grades 3 and up); and

Partnerships
The Edison K8 School has a number of partnerships with universities, organizations, and companies that contribute to fulfilling our mission.

- Big Sister Association of Greater Boston: Mentoring program to help girls realize their full potential by providing them with positive mentoring relationships with women
- Boston Arts Academy: Our Arts curriculum prepares students for admission to the Arts Academy
- Boston College: When the university is in session, BC undergraduates work as tutors for students in the JMCC after-school program. The students provide fun activities that foster cooperative learning, scholastic, and social growth which are building blocks for tomorrow's leaders. The university provides tutoring through the ReadBoston program. BC also runs an exercise and mentoring program for at-risk third through fifth grade girls called Strong Women, Strong Girls.
- Boston University: When the university is in session, BU undergraduates participate in Edison’s after school program, serving kindergarten to fifth grade students. BUILD tutors offer homework assistance, implement literacy games, help with journal writing, and read with the children.
- College Success Academy - sponsored by the Steppingstone Foundation College Success Academy supports students beginning in the summer after grade 4 with 6 weeks of summer learning and 3 days a week of after school instruction through grade 8.
- City Connects: Boston College's program uses the existing structures of public schools and the resources of local community agencies to deliver tailored supports for students.
- EdVestors Arts Initiative: Launched in 2009 as a new strategic approach for EdVestors, Strategic Initiative (SI) grants couple increased funding for high-potential educational efforts with greater involvement from EdVestors to develop and shape multi-year, District-wide investments. The BPS Arts Expansion Initiative, a three-year, $2.5M effort to expand arts education in the Boston Public Schools, with a focus on increasing access, equity, and quality. The Arts Initiative funds our annual Stage Design residency, bringing a professional set designed to the school to work with students t design and build sets for our 2 theater productions each year.
- Faneuil Branch Library: Many teachers take their students weekly to Oak Square to visit the Faneuil Branch of the Boston Public Library. Students can get a library card of their own and check out books that can be returned to any BPL library.
- Franciscans Hospital For Children: Clinicians from Franciscans provide counselling support to students and families both in school and at their Brighton campus.
- Jackson Mann Community Center: The Jackson Mann runs an after-school program on-site at the Edison for kindergarten through fifth grade students. The JMCC has also been a partner in the redesign of the Edison schoolyard in 2010-2011.
- Play Ball Foundation!: Play Ball!’s mission is simple: provide middle school students with opportunities to play, build friendships, and build character through the lessons of sports – teamwork, communication and discipline.
- PlayWorks: Playworks is a national nonprofit organization that supports learning by providing safe, healthy and inclusive play and physical activity to low-income schools at recess and throughout the entire school day. PlayWorks provides a ful time "recess coach" to support safe and productive play and recess time and through out the school day.
