The Edison K8 continues to implement the EngageNY curriculum for ELA - grades 3-8.
The entire curriculum, student and parent resources, videos and exemplars can be found by clicking here. Throughout the years, many texts have been used including, but not limited to: Chew on This, Facing the Lion, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief, Counting by 7s, The Pearl, Walk Two Moons, Into the Dust, Inside Out & Back Again, Harriet Tubman and Underground Railroad, The Autobiography of Frederick Douglass, A Long Walk to Water, Black and White, The Bluest Eye, They Poured on Us from the Sky, Wonder, To Kill a Mockingbird, Half the Sky, and more. Please contact your child's specific teacher for suggested texts and ideas for books at home. |
Book DonationsUnfortunately at this time, we do not have a school library.
ELA classroom teachers keep a library in their classrooms - that are often filled with books from generous friends and donors or ones that they buy themselves. If you would like to donate age-appropriate books to a teacher, please reach out to us via our Contact Page & we will connect you. Thank you. |
What can I do
|
The best thing to do at home is to read with your child. We recommend asking your child what they are reading in/out of school.
We are happy to send a books home or suggest texts to purchase online/local bookstore. We are also happy to help identify the local library in your neighborhood. Just let us know! |

Raz-Kids is an award-winning teaching product that provides comprehensive leveled reading resources for students. With hundreds of eBooks offered at 27 different levels of reading difficulty, it's easy to put the right content in every student's hands.
Kids access their leveled text through an interactive learning portal designed to keep them motivated and engaged. Every eBook is available in online and mobile formats, and allows students to listen to, read at their own pace, and record themselves reading. Students then take a corresponding eQuiz complete with an extended answer response to test comprehension and determine future instruction needs. Once a child has read ten or more of the leveled eBooks and passed each of the corresponding eQuizzes, they advance on to the next reading level where they have access to lengthier and more difficult text. |
