2017-2018 Instructional Focus
By June 2018, The Edison K8 community will work toward a common goal of quality, rigorous inclusive standards-based instruction. We will promote differentiated teaching and learning to improve academic, social-emotional and artistic growth. We will provide multiple opportunities for all learners (students and teachers) to use our current educational tools and supports (UDL, QTEL, Technology, CCSS Curricula, multiple adults in a classroom, school based professional development, SE teaching and learning). Teachers and support staff will increase students’ READING CAPACITY AND COMPREHENSION so students can effectively access cognitively demanding tasks/instruction in all subject areas/disciplines. We will measure our efforts through 2 inquiry cycles, 3 WIN intervention cycles and 4 Illuminate interims.

Message from the PrincipalDear Edison K8 Families,
It has been quite a launch to our 2017-2018 school year! The biggest change in our community is the additional 40 minutes on the back end of our day. Teachers have been planning for several months to make ELT (Extended Learning Time) meaningful and connected to our academic goals. It is for this reason we have successfully launched W.I.N. (What I Need) Time in grades 3-8. WIN is a 40 minute block when students are pulled into small group instruction tailored to their specific learning needs. We are hopeful that customized, targeted in instruction will improve our students' ability to fluently read and comprehend text. We are looking forward to a successful school year filled with learning and growth. Please read on form other important announcements. - Sam Varano, Principal |
