- Edison K8 School Site Council meeting
- Friday, February 11
- 7:00 - 8:15 am
- Room #116
As some of you know, BPS has moved this year to a budgeting process where more of the decisions need to be made at the local school level. In the past, BPS used projected enrollment to set school staffing levels; beginning this year, BPS is using projected enrollment to set school budget levels, and then the school uses those numbers to set staffing levels.
Based on those enrollment projections, the Edison K8 School's budget for next year has a shortfall of $370,000 relative to the cost of continuing all staffing and programs at the current level. This represents a 6.1% gap that cannot reasonably be addressed in any way other than staffing cuts.
The site council has been looking at a number of different options in order to address this funding gap, which will be discussed Friday: eliminating one teaching position that was added temporarily for SY10-11; eliminating one or more administrative positions; partial reconfiguration of the special education instructional model; and creating a split class for two grades with projected under-enrollment.
As in past meetings, child care for school-aged children will be provided downstairs in the library starting at 7 am; the children will go to the cafeteria after 8 am in order to get breakfast.
Site council meetings are open to the public. Interested parents and staff are encouraged to attend.
